Enviromental Civil Society in the Aegean Region
Civil society organizations and social movements are driving forces of democratization and ecological sustainability. This research project titled “The Development and Effectiveness of the Environmental Civil Society in the Aegean Region” investigates the effectiveness and institutional characteristics of environmental civil society organizations and environmental movements in the Aegean region of Turkey. It establishes a database of all environmental movements and environmental civil society organizations in the region. Through a survey-based methodology, it examines various characteristics, purposes, strategies, actions and institutional features of them. It also identifies the contestation vs. collaboration-type relationships of these movements and organizations with diverse stakeholders, such as the state and the companies, and to studies how such networks shape the relevant organizational fields including renewable energies, food and agriculture in the region.
The research project is undertaken thanks to a Yasar University research grant. (#093)
